Each year the graduate recruiting committee, consisting of three faculty, works with the Associate Department Head for Academics to identify the students to admit. If you wish to discuss the likelihood your application will be competitive, feel free to contact the chair of the Graduate Recruiting Committee.

Application Process and Requirements
- Submit an application via UniCAS online.
- Make sure your essay within the application explicitly addresses all aspects of the prompt.
- Provide at least three letters of recommendation from individuals, preferably faculty or advisors, who know you and your professional goals well. Submit these via UniCAS online.
- Make sure to submit a resume/CV via UniCAS online. To improve competitiveness of your application make sure the CV/resume highlights your education, experience and leadership skills.
- Official transcripts from all previous college/university study should be sent directly to the Office of Admissions.
Step 1: Explore Faculty Advisors
Research the graduate faculty members in PLPM to identify professors who share your research and teaching interests. You will need to identify your top 1-3 choices on your application. ‘Prospective students are encouraged to email potential Faculty Advisors from the department to begin the process of identifying a program. All admitted students have the opportunity to rotate through up to three laboratories during their first semester. Therefore, identifying a major advisor before applying is not necessary, so prospective students are encouraged to email potential Faculty Chairs who may advocate their entrance into the program.
Step 2: Fill out the Texas A&M University Application
On the Graduate Centralized Application Service (GradCAS) website, choose the graduate application, then Texas A&M University. The major for the application will be Plant Pathology and Microbiology
Step 3: Wait for the Graduate Committee to Decide if Your Application Will be Accepted.
Admissions decisions are made based on application materials, as well as resources available in the department. Once accepted, you will receive an email from the PLPM Department and a letter from the University.
Priority deadline for applicants who are seeking assistantship support is December 15th.
After the priority deadline, applicants may be considered for assistantship support based on funding availability. The second round of decisions will be made if assistantships are available on or after April 15th.
