Company:

City of Sugar Land

Current Position:

Environmental & Neighborhood Services Liaison

Job duties:

I have overseen the environmental programs and various divisions including animal services, solid waste, stormwater, food inspections, code enforcement, fleet and facilities. Currently I have scaled back in order to spend more time with my family, but still assist with several environmental projects.

Impacts:

In my career, I am able to impact the community through education, implementation of new environmental programs and engagement with residents. We have implemented progressive curbside solid waste and recycling programs which have increased residential diversion from 10% to 40%.

What are you passionate about?

I am passionate about public service and the environment. Outside of work, I am passionate about my family (husband, two daughters and three dogs), Aggie sports especially Aggie football and travelling.

Describe your educational history:

B.S. in Bioenvironmental Sciences from Texas A&M University

What advise would you give to the current Aggies interested in entering environmental industry?

My advice would be to do what you love and are passionate about. If you do this, it will not seem like work and you will enjoy going to work every day. If you decide your passion lies in a different industry, don’t be afraid to make a career change.

If you were entering the environmental industry today, what area would you pursue? Why?

I would still choose the public sector with a focus on environmental programs. I love engaging with and educating residents on environmental issues and city services. In the public sector, you can make a difference in the community, which can also benefit the environment.
