Sooty Blotch (fungus - Gloeodes pomigena): Sooty-gray
or cloudy blotches appear on the fruit. The fungus attacks both apples and
pears in Texas. It is most severe during years that have cool, wet springs,
late summer rains, and low temperatures in early fall. It is normally found
in conjunction with fly speck, another disease of apples and pears. Fungcides
should be applied in late spring and early summer.
